in order to reduce the configuration effort on a device and also reduce the error rate a technician can make, could we have time synchronization done via SMaaS instead of NTP?
Right now, all devices are synchronizing their date and time via NTP. This requires an NTP server and, if the customer does not provide an NTP server, an additional port (UDP 123) open in the firewall.
Xovis and TrueVUE do this better. They have a checkbox to get the date and time from TrueVUE. You don't need any additional ports, IP addresses or whatever.
From my point of view 2 things are necessary:
- SmaaS must provide this feature in the same way that the data is delivered to SMaaS.
- The devices need a check box in the date and time configuration, such as Sync Date and Time from SMaaS.
If I remember correctly, this function was always available in TrueVUE, and we don't have to change anything with the SIP protocol in TrueVUE. Only Xovis integrated this feature into its firmware.
This required Firmware upgrade.
Thanks Stefan. We will review this submitted idea this week during our backlog review meeting!
