Customisable date range option should be available on the main dashboard

The drop down options under "Period" on the main dashboard could be improved by the addition of a customisable date range option.  Currently you are restricted to the options listed such as last 7 days, last month, last 30 days.  Why not last 3 months, or last 6 months or  say from 1 January to today for example?
